This page explains what to do if you want to install your own appliance or arrange work at your home. Rent UK Property does not charge tenants for installing appliances or for arranging this work.
Installing your own appliance
You can arrange this yourself using a suitably qualified contractor.
- Permission: where your tenancy agreement requires the landlord’s consent, get it in writing before installation.
- Qualified installers: any gas appliance must be installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Appliances that need a fixed electrical connection should be installed by a competent electrician.
- Certificate: please send us a copy of the installer’s certificate or invoice once the work is done.
- Safe working: you are responsible for making sure any contractor you appoint works safely and does not damage the property.
- Damage: if you or your contractor causes damage, you may be responsible for the reasonable, evidenced cost of putting it right, excluding fair wear and tear. This is normally dealt with through the tenancy deposit under the deposit scheme’s process.
Appliances supplied with the property
If an appliance that came with the property is faulty, report it using our maintenance form. We deal with it through our normal repairs process.
